Assessing the degree of experience and satisfaction of patients treated with implant-supported overdentures

Introduction / Dental implants are able to solve the lack of stability of conventional dentures, but little is known about the satisfaction of patients treated with implant-supported total prostheses. / Objective / Identify the experience and the degree of satisfaction of patients treated with implant-supported overdentures. / Methods / Sixty-six patients were interviewed by a single researcher. Patients were questioned about any unpleasant experiences during treatment and if treatment should be recommended to others. Additionally, a Visual Analogue Scale was used to assess the degree of patient’s satisfaction in relation to stability, aesthetics, comfort, phonetics, and ease of sanitization. Data were analyzed by means of Spearman correlation (P < 0.05) and submitted to a multiple regression. / Results / Of the patients interviewed, 22.7% reported experiencing something unpleasant or uncomfortable during treatment, and all of them stated that they would recommend treatment to others. he degree of patient’s satisfaction was high, reaching an average of 97.7%. he following items were most relevant: stability, phonetics, comfort, and treatment recommendation. / Conclusion / he degree of satisfaction of patients treated with implant-supported overdenture is high, mainly due to stability, followed by phonetic and comfort provided by these prostheses.
