Ankylosis and replacement resorption in anterior teeth: the first signs to diagnose

Introduction: The only cause of ankylosis and consequent resorption by substitution of impacted teeth is dental trauma. The most frequent and silent of dental traumas relative to their consequences is dental concussion, and during anamnesis, the patient frequently does not even remember that it had occurred. Description: The fi rst line [biological] treatment for ankylosis and resorption by substitution is decoronation followed by placement of an osseointegrated implant, nevertheless, some older treatments are still frequently used. Result: For adequate treatment, an early, precise diagnosis is important. The initial signs are emphasized from the clinical and imaginological points of view. Conclusion: In conclusion, it is explained that ankylosis and resorption by substitution occur because dental trauma in impacted teeth eliminates the Epithelial Rests of Malassez - the structure responsible for the maintenance of periodontal space.
