Midline correction with segmented arch technique

Giorgio Fiorelli, Wislei de Oliveira.

Introduction: Conventional orthodontic appliances have some limitations for specific types of tooth movement; in particular, if the appliance cannot access the area and induce the type of force vector needed for a particular displacement. The two-vector mechanics system includes two statically determined elements and allows for high control of the site and direction of force vector application. Objective: To present a clinical case of midline discrepancy and demonstrate the clinical use and utility of this method, and to describe this method for dental midline correction using a segmented arch approach, with a statically determinate system. Conclusion: The segmented arch approach using a statically determined system with two-vector mechanics showed to be efficient for dental midline correction with predictable results and reduced side effects.
