Mini-implants use and individualized devices planning: a new clinical and laboratory approach

Cristiane Barros André, Walter Iared

Since the creation of mini-implants, Orthodontics has undergone great evolutions. However, it is not always possible to associate the installation site of mini implants with a good anatomical condition and biomechanical viability. Thus, this article aims at presenting a biomechanical devices system that associates new technological resources to enable movements and reduce side-effects. This is now possible by means of the association of laser welding in orthodontics and a ring system that supports the appliance over the mini-implant, avoiding its contact with the tissues. This system with individualized devices over the mini-implants comprises an integrated action between orthodontist, surgeon and laboratory in planning and executing optimized biomechanics with skeletal anchorage, as well as the possibility of creating a design directed to specific clinical needs. It enables the execution of movements as distalization, mesialization, expansion or contraction, retraction, intrusion or extrusion, when verified that conventional techniques would imply a longer treatment time, biological and financial cost or even discomfort.
