José Augusto Mendes Miguel, Tatiana Ettore do Valle de Sousa Freitas, Diego S. Santos

Dental impaction is an anomaly that occurs during eruption and mainly affects the permanent dentition. When it occurs in upper anterior teeth, it constitutes a clinical challenge and can generate to the patient aesthetic, functional and psychosocial disorders. In such cases, early diagnosis and appropriate treatment are essential to solve the problem. Among the local etiological factors of dental impaction we can mention the presence of supernumerary teeth and odontomas. Many treatment suggestions are found in the literature, and the most commonly used is orthodontic surgical traction. The objective of this paper is to report a clinical case of an 8-year-old patient with impacted upper incisors due to the presence of an odontoma. The treatment consisted of surgical removal of the tumor and orthodontic traction of the impacted elements using a tooth-tissue-borne appliance, as well as to review aspects related to etiology, diagnosis and therapeutic options for this condition.
