Deaf patient in orthodontic treatment: an alternative form of communication

Introduction: Deafness is a pathology that decreases acuity and perception of hearing, and the deaf population needs health care not only linked to their condition. In this context, communication is of paramount importance and enables the excellence of general and oral health care. Thus, it is imperative that orthodontists make use of resources that make communication more effective without harming the patients autonomy. Objective: The present case report aimed to present a digital resource, called OrtoLibras, developed to optimize communication with a deaf patient attended in a specialization course in the city of Goiânia/Brazil. Conclusion: OrtoLibras helped in a significant way in the care of this patient, making possible a better communication between her and the dental team.
