Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the elastic deformation of 14 different brands, submitted to decontaminating means, after 7, 14, 21 and 28 days stretched. Methods: Three loops were cut and measured with a digital caliper to stretch individualization to 50% of the original size. From the 20 samples of each brand, 5 were placed directly in the template (control), 5 were immersed in 0.2% peracetic acid, 5 were rubbed with 70% alcohol and 5 were autoclaved. Samples remained stretched in templates in artificial saliva at 37°C. For each period, elastics were measured and discarded. Data was submitted to descriptive statistical analysis, 3-way ANOVA and Tukey test (5%). Results: 3-way ANOVA showed statistically significant difference among trademarks, decontamination means and intervals measured; as well as possible interactions among groups. Tukey test showed best behavior for TP Orthodontics and GAC, followed by Rocky Mountain, American Orthodontics, Orthometric-Aditek, Aditek-Eurodonto, Dentaurum-Tecnident-Ormco-OrthoOrganizers, Abzil-Ormco-OrthoOrganizers, Morelli and Uniden. Autoclave was similar to artificial saliva, with fewer changes in elastic properties. Elastics deformation was proportional to the stretching time. Conclusions: There was plastic deformation, varying among brands, increased in function of time and influenced by decontamination method.
