What is the difference between superelastic and thermoactivated nickel- titanium wires? Part 1

INTRODUCTION: The majority of orthodontists use nickel-titanium wires in the initial phases of treatment. However, there is lack of information regarding the real meaning of Nitinol, Superelastic NiTi and thermoactive Niti, and this confuses the student, clinicians and some faculty. OBJEC- TIVE: The first part of this paper will explain the meaning of shape memory, resilience and superelasticity, and correlate those concepts to the afore mentioned wires.
