What is the difference between superelastic and thermoactive nickel-titanium wires? Part 2

INTRODUCTION: The majority of orthodontists use nickel-titanium wires in the initial phases of treatment. However, there is lack of information regarding the real meaning of Nitinol, Superelastic NiTi and thermoactive NiTi, and this confuses the orthodontic student, clinicians and some faculty. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this paper is to continue the discussion of the first part of this article. Working temperature and Af temperature influence on the behaviour of the NiTi are discussed, as well as the difference between the so called “Superelastic NiTi” and “Thermoactivated NiTi.”
