Interceptive orthodontic treatment: from proper space maintenance to a stable follow-up

Objective: The objective of this article was to report a clinical case in which the knowledge on facial growth and development of dentition allowed favorable growth redirection in a girl with concave profile, early at the age of 6 years and 2 months. Results: By maxillary expansion, adequate management of the Leeway space during the mixed dentition and utilization of headgear, it was possible to solve the tooth-size discrepancy, eliminating the crowing without the need for extractions. Conclusion: Despite the longer treatment time, the stable outcome in the long term, pleasant smile and balanced face reinforce preventive and interceptive approach.
