Association of orthodontic mini- implants and Invisalign aligners

Introduction: Contemporary orthodontics has had impressive advances in several fields, notably the emergence of temporary anchorage devices (TADs), such as mini-implants, and orthodontic aligners. TADs were instrumental in controlling anchorage and replacing patient collaboration by devices that do not depend on this cooperation. The asso- ciation between TADs and fixed appliances is well known. However, its association with aligners is still little used by orthodontists. Objective: The present study will present several practical applications of mini-implants in treatments with aligners. Conclu- sion: It is concluded that the use of TADs associated with aligner therapy is possible and there are several ways to achieve this association. The orthodontist is free to choose and apply the best system to obtain the ideal biomechanics for each case, associating this formidable anchorage tool with virtual planning and its biomechanical programming.
