Professor Cauby Maia Chaves Jr. is completing 30 years as a dental surgeon; of these, at least 26 were dedicated to two passions that have guided his professional life: Orthodontics and Sleep Medicine. Graduated at the Federal University of Ceará (UFC), he recently became the first Full Professor of Orthodontics at this institution, where he works as professor of the undergraduate and graduate programs (academic master’s and doctoral studies). He followed the entire course of academic life, step by step, earning master’s, doctoral and postdoctoral degrees in Orthodontics. During his post-doctoral studies, he was a CNPq scholarship holder in the Department of Orthodontics, University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, and later, also in the Department of Pediatric Dentistry, University of Michigan, in Ann Arbor, under the supervision of Professor Lucia Cevidanes. Is your curriculum filled with the intersection of Sleep Medicine and Orthodontics - or is it the other way around? He dedicates himself in a passionate and serious manner to research and teaching. He wrote the book A Odontologia na Medicina do Sono (“Dentistry in Sleep Medicine”, Ed. Dental Press, 2010), together with Professor Cybele Dal Fabbro, another exponent in this field of sleep medicine. This book represented a scientific milestone in the consolidation of Sleep Medicine in Dentistry in Brazil and greatly encourages dedication to this field of work
