Gustavo Mattos BARRETO e Henrique Oliveira FEITOSA

Introduction: The treatment of transverse maxillary deficiency in adult patients has generated several discussions about the therapies presently used, namely: rapid maxillary expansion (RME), surgically-assisted rapid maxillary expansion (SARME) and, recently, miniscrew-assisted rapid palatal expansion (MARPE). Objective: This article aims at reporting the clinical case of an adult patient who was treated without surgery, by means of RME, as well as showing the excellent effects that this orthodontic therapy is able to offer, avoiding unnecessary surgical procedures.

Keywords: Malocclusion. Posterior crossbite. Treatment.
