Workflow in orthognathic surgery virtual planning

Luana Santos COSTA, Weber Céo CAVALCANTE, Arlei CERQUEIRA

Objective: Technical note of a simplified workflow, in order to facilitate the clinician’s adherence to the virtual planning of orthognathic surgery, without compromising the accuracy of the technique. Methods: For this, a literature review was carried out on the processes involved in planning, clinical documentation, computed tomography, dental arches digitalization, establishment of the composite skull model, and obtaining the final occlusion. Results: Multislice tomography, facial and intraoral scanning, and spatial orientation based on clinical data (adjusted head position) are the simplest and most effective methods available to reliably reproduce in the virtual environment the changes clinically observed in the patients. Conclusions: The proposed protocol presents simplicity within the reach of the clinician, and subsidies for digital planning and virtual surgery of excellence.
