The influence of third molar on the late crowding of lower incisives remains obscure. Several works have shown opposing results making it difficult to take safe conclusions on the correlation between eruption and anterior lower crowding. Most authors accept the multifatorial etiology of incisives crowding, involving late mandibular growth, maturarion of perioral soft tissue, mesial migration of posterior teeth (oclusal forces anterior components), absence of teeth wear due to modern diet, as well as eruption of third molars. Methods used in the studies of alterations generated from third molars during alignement of incisives have shown different requiring criterius comparisons among those results. This paper will discuss some works developed on the field paying carefull attention to those results that can be applied to orthodontic practice.
