The present study has the purpose of assess the interference of Temporomandibular Disorders (TMD) in swallowing and speech production and its consequences. Fifty-one adult patients diagnosed with TMD, before dental and/or speech treatment, served as subjects. The results of this research showed that 19,6% presented tongue thrust swallowing pattern. Phonemic distortions were noted in a few number of patients with TMD. These distortions seem to be related to tongue thrust observed in some patients and not necessarily to TMD.
