Roberto M. A. LIMA, Anna Letícia LIMA

Patients with open bite, large lower anterior face height and vertically growing mandibles present many difficulties during treatment and retention. The following case report demonstrates the use of rapid palatal expansion combined with adenoidectomy in successfully treating a patient who exhibited a Class I malocclusion with an anterior open bite, real maxillary deficiency, nasal obstruction and an excessive lower anterior face height. This treatment revealed a decrease in the mandibular plane angle as well as the lower anterior face height in relation to the posterior face height.

Keywords: Excessive lower anterior face height. Mandibular plane angle. Adenoidectomy. Rapid Palatal Expansion.
