Upper Molar Distalization through the Use of Pendulum: The Appliance, The Mechanism, Possibilities and Shortcoming

The difficulties found when tryng to reach an orthodontic treatment goal, concerning the patient compliance with the use of headgear for Class II correction are becoming harder and harder. Recent reports have been published using different appliances for Classe II malloclusion compliance. Reviewing the literature the Pendex designed by Hilgers has been showing very good results, obtained with little patient compliance. The scope of this paper is to evaluate this appliance, showing the mechanism of action, possibilities of use and shortcomings and to present a clinical case treated with this methodology.
