This longitudinal cephalometric study aimed to evaluate the development of the overbite, determining their values, the significance between the means, the sexual dimorfism and which variable contribute most to them. The samples consisted of 223 lateral cephalometric projection of 75 brazilian caucasians, 37 males and 38 females, without mutilations or orthodontic treatment who exibited the lateral projections at 6, 9, 12, 15 and 18 years of age. Based on the results we can conclude that: The overbite increased until 12 years of age, with posterior reduction and stabilization, with dimorfism for the 12 years of age and being strongly influenced by anterior dental heights.
