Cephalometric Study of the Human Cranial Base Growth and Flexure from birth to Six Months of Age

Patrícia LANZA, Ary SANTOS-PINTO, Paulo Domingos André BOLINI

At the present study, it was analyzed the variations in the growth and flexure cranial base in anatomical children pieces, from birth to six months of life. Stain steel pins were inserted in specific anatomical points of 31 hemi-heads (midsagittal cut) and then roentgenograms were taken using the conventional distance of 1,52m. With the aid of cephalometric analysis program, it was obtained linear and angular measurements in the area. After the statistical analysis, we concluded that, in this life period, there was not angular variations in the flexure of cranial base, although the anterior cranial base showed an linear increase in length and the posterior cranial base a relative stability. No variations were observed in the angular relationship of the sphenoidal and ethmoidal bones and in the maxillary inclination.
