The current research compared the clinical efficacy of a light-cured glass ionomer cement (Fuji Ortho LC) to a common composite (Orthodontic Concise). Orthodontic brackets were bonded to the upper and lower permanent incisors of 18 patients submitted to levelling and alignment in the mixed dentition. The patients were observed over an 11-month period. No spontaneous debonding of the brackets bonded with Concise was observed, while 2 brackets bonded with Fuji Ortho LC had to be replaced. The findings show that Fuji Ortho LC is as efficient as Orthodontic Concise in terms of resistance. Advantages of the light-cured glass ionomer cement consist of mechanical and biological properties, which makes it adequate for bonding orthodontic brackets.
