Edgard Norões R. da MATTA, Ricardo Beirão Lavenere MACHADO, Paulene Alves da SILVA

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the dental alterations and the effectivity of the expansion mechanics on the upper dental arch by using a quadhelix in patients with functional posterior crossbite. The activation degree used in this research (half of the anchor molars bucco-palatal width) showed to be effective in all clinical cases and the average period of treatment was 56 days. We noticed an average increase of 3.36 mm on the superior intercanine distance and of 3.82 mm on the superior intermolars distance, while this measurements suffered no significant alteration on the inferior arch.

Keywords: Quadhelix. Crossbite. Palatal expansion.
