The purpose of this study was to compare the treatment results between the bonded rapid palatal expander with occlusal coverage with the results found by SILVA FILHO, Vilas Boas, Capelozza Filho16, when was used a banded appliance known as “Haas modified”. Cephalometric x-rays were taken before and after the expansion on both groups and a statistical test was done to compare them. The results showed no statistical difference on the lower facial height and on the anterior and posterior heigth when both groups were compared. The banded appliance didn’t show a significant displacement downwards of the maxilla neither the extrusion of the anchorage molars related to the palatal plane. The banded appliance showed more clockwise rotation of the mandible with increase of the mandible plane angle and the “y” axis. Significant changes of the sagital position of the maxilla was not found when comparing both appliances.
