Comparative study between aesthetics preference of soft tissue facial profile examined by orthodontists and lay persons with cephalometric standards

Erik Lima DIOGO, Luiz Antônio Alves BERNARDES

The present study had compared the aesthetic preference of soft tissue facial profile with cephalometric standards through facial profile evaluation of 90 patients with finalized orthodontic treatment. In lateral radiographs of those patients with pleasant facial profiles were evaluated frontonasal, nasolabial, mentolabial and facial convexity angles; the distance of lips until “S” line of Steiner and H nose factor. The orthodontists were more severe in evaluation, the aesthetic preference presented with a little tendency of major facial convexity and more upper and lower labial protrusion, with more inclination of nose to the upper lip and little aversion of lower lip. It was noted a relation of proportionate between the evaluated angles with the frontonasal angle.
