Effects of rapid palatal expansion and cervical traction in class II division 1 malocclusion

Roberto M. A. LIMA FILHO, Anna Carolina LIMA, José Henrique Gonzaga de OLIVEIRA, Mônica Tirre de Souza ARAÚJO

This case report demonstrates the use of rapid maxillary expansion with cervical traction in the treatment of a Class II Division 1 transverse maxillary deiciency, severe maxillary arch length problem, lat proile and skeletal deep bite. The treatment allowed a normal and stable occlusal relationship between maxillary and mandibular arches with the teeth in an ideal transverse relationship and with normal buccolingual inclination. The expansion of the maxillary arch and cervical traction produced necessary spaces for the eruption of the permanent teeth. The anterior crossbite was corrected lending a normal labiolingual inclination to the maxillary right lateral incisor.
