Reconciling scientific research results with clinical practice represents a major challenge to healthcare professionals, including orthodontists. Current clinical decision-making should be mainly based on clinical trials comparing two or more treatment or diagnosis methods. These trials are known as randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and are considered the gold standard in scientific evidence.
