Craniofacial Growth in Class II and Normal Occlusion Adolescents, From 10 to 12 Years of Age

Weber URSI, James MCNAMARA JR.

The aim of this investigation was to evaluate cephalometrically the craniofacial growth of Class II compared to normal occlusion individuals. Twenty-nine untreated Class II patients were compared with 30 with normal occlusion, followed from 10,6 to 12,6 years of age. It was conclued that, compared to the normal occlusion group, Class II patients presented a longer cranial base; similarly positioned maxillas, more retrognathic mandibles, although dimensionally similar; higher lower anterior facial heights due to a more vertical facial growth; upper molars and incisors more extruded and lower incisors more protruded and extruded. During the two year period both groups grew very similarly, so differences between them must have been developed in a much earlier growth stage.
