The cephalometric studies that evaluate orthodontic therapy at time of growth and development needs a sample of controls, for comparison and differentiation of the coming effects of the treatment from those that happen with growth. The concern with the shortage of researches supported in control groups motivated us to the accomplishment of this work, with the purpose of evaluating the dento-skeletal characteristics of the class II, division 1 malocclusion, without treatment. Twenty-five youngs with initial age 9 years old and 4 months and final of 12 years and 8 months were accompanied by a 3 year and 4 months period. It was verified that the mandible was retruded in 75% of the cases, while the maxila varied among retruded, well positioned and protruded. The growth pattern denoted variability, exhibiting vertical, horizontal growth or balance of the vectors. The comparison of the initial and final x-rays revealed that the growth pattern shows slight tendency of closing of the angles. The maxila and the mandible grew anteriorly, maintaining the skeletal pattern of class II as well as the dental, once upper molars and incisors accompanied the maxillary growth, with mesialization and extrusion and the lowers that also extruded, with mesialization just of the molars, while the incisors were retruded, worsening the overjet.
