Orthodontic Diagnosis in Centric Relation Position: Cephalometrics measurements Comparison in Centric Relation Position Obtained Through the use of “TENS” with Measurements in Intercuspal Position

Ivan Tadeu Pinheiro da SILVA, Fábio de Souza TELLES, Alexandre MORO

The objective of this research was to evaluate the cephalometric changes presented in a lateral telerradiograph in a intercuspal position (MIH) and centric relation position (RC) obtained through the use of TENS, tested in 71 subjects. Considering the statistics analyses the next results were found: 1) There are significant differences between centric relation and intercuspal positions in most part of the compared six measurements; 2) When centric relation was adjusted (RCA) eliminating the change in vertical dimension, it was found significant differences in 5 of the 6 measurements to most of the tested subgroups; 3) When searching for which subgroup presented more discrepancy between centric relation adjusted and intercuspal position it was concluded that: 3.1) There was no significant difference between the measurements when they were compared to the subgroups normocclusion in Class II neither when it was compared to the Class I and Class II subgroups; 3.2) Class I subgroup presented the highest discrepancy when compared to normocclusion subgroup for measurement SNB and mandibular plane; 3.3) malocclusion subgroup presented the highest discrepancy when it was compared to normocclusion for the facial axis and mandibular plane measurements.
